Unity to Unreal Engine
by Finnegan DePuy
Within Game Development there are a wide variety of engines to choose from, Unity, Godot, Phaser, Construct, and Unreal Engine to name a few. The majority of my time so far has been spent on learning Unity, however after dipping my toes into Unreal I have to learn more.
Currently, I only have about two months of experience using Unreal Engine and am enjoying the additional features they provide over Unity. Initially, it was quite intimidating, learning both the more in-depth details section and understanding a new style of programming through the blueprint system, However with some experience using shader graphs in Unity I was able to pretty quickly transition into the blueprint programming style.
I am Learning to use Unreal Engine for two primary reasons. One, I wanted to learn to utilize blueprints and the Niagara particle systems. Second, is that I am currently working on a Coop Horror game where the tools that Unreal Engine 5 provides are fantastic.
